TIPS FOR USING ONLINE DATABASES

Currently there are 56 databases you can choose from on the Grosse Pointe Public Library's database page, so here are some tips we hope will make it easier for you to use these databases.

  • For easy access to databases, have your library card handy. If you have misplaced your library card call the library at 313-343-2074 ext.220 and the Circulation Clerks will be happy to issue a replacement.
  • Each database has a detailed description of access requirements.
  • Some databases can only be accessed from within one of the libraries and will be designated as “inside library only” and cannot be accessed from home.
  • If you are using one of the databases from home, some databases are free to use, some databases require your library card number to be entered, while other databases require you to enter a name and password.
  • The downloadable eBook and Audio Book websites require a one time registration for you to create a username and password to check out digital books.
  • The Mel Online database offered from the State of Michigan is free to Michigan residents but requires a driver’s license or state ID to access.

If you encounter problems accessing a database while at the library, please see a librarian or computer support person for assistance. If you have problems accessing a database from home, you can call the library at 343-2074 and ask for assistance.
