Frequently Asked Questions

Will my library card work at another branch?

Yes! Your Grosse Pointe Public Library card is valid at all three of our branches! The Grosse Pointe Public Library’s online catalog includes books in the Grosse Pointe Public Schools libraries, but those items must be picked up at one of our GPPL branches. Your GPPL card also allows you to request items from our statewide interlibrary loan system, MeLCat. Finally, if you register for the MILibrary Card at one of our branches, you can get borrowing privileges at dozens of participating libraries throughout the state; ask for details at the Circulation or Reference desk.

Can I return an item to another branch?

Yes! Books, DVDs, audiobooks, video games, and magazines can all be returned to any of the three Grosse Pointe Public Library branches. We do ask that you return items from our Tool Collection to the Central Branch only.

I have books I no longer need, can I donate them to the library?

We accept many kinds of books on behalf of the Friends for their book sales. Please review their donations guidelines here:

I wrote a book! Will the library buy it? Will you host a launch party for me?

The Grosse Pointe Public Library wants to support local authors and artists as much as possible, but our budgets and staffing are limited. We encourage local authors to donate a copy of their work to our collection; please click here for our Local Authors and Artists Materials Donation guidelines and form. While we are always gathering ideas for programs, we receive too many requests for local author book programs to host all of them. There is a space on our donation form where you can indicate your interest in participating, should we create a suitable library program.
