Making Your Gift

Making your Gift to the Grosse Pointe Public Library

2003-2004 Annual Giving Roll of Honor

In 1999 the Grosse Pointe Public Library Board of Trustees organized a Development Office for the purpose of managing gifts and bequests received by the library from supporters throughout the community. When the time comes to finance a new or expanded public library building, major gifts will also be sought through the development effort.

You can make a difference right now by making your gift to the Grosse Pointe Public Library Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is a primary source of donor support for the operations of the Library. Gifts to the Annual Fund make it possible to provide programs, resources and equipment that are not normally met by public funding.

That is why your gift is so important. A gift to the Grosse Pointe Public Library is an investment in the future of the library insuring that the tools for learning will always be available to our citizens. Combined with contributions from other citizens, Annual Fund gifts provide a substantial amount of funding to support:

Increasing Senior Programs

Expanding Technology in Reference Resources

Expanding Youth Service and Adult Programs

To make your gift to the Annual Fund, simply mail it to the library at 10 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. 48236. Gifts can be made as cash gifts, deferred gifts, insurance policies and bequests, and may be unrestricted or restricted. Recognition clubs have been established to honor those supporting the library at specific levels and are based on the total of your gift during the fiscal year.

Michigan Tax Credit

The State of Michigan offers a tax credit for charitable gifts to public libraries. Michigan law permits individuals and businesses to reduce Michigan Income Tax or Michigan Single Business Tax, by a credit of 50 percent of the amount contributed to the Grosse Pointe Public Library. The tax credits are subject to the following limitations:

  • $100 for an individual who is single or married and filing separately (based on a $200 gift);

  • $200 for a married couple filing jointly (bases on a $400 gift);

  • $5,000 or 10 percent of the tax liability before claiming any credits, whichever is less, for a resident estate or trust (bases on a $10,000 gift); and

  • $5,000 or 5 percent of the tax liability before claiming any credits, whichever is less, for taxpayers subject to the single business tax (based on a $10,000 gift).

The Michigan Tax Credit is in addition to the charitable contribution deduction for Federal income tax purposes.
