Coordinator of Maintenance

Job Summary: Directs and coordinates operation of the library facilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining an orderly efficient custodial department.
  • Schedule custodial staff .
  • Call for substitute help during vacation or sick times of custodial staff.
  • Prepare agenda and lead custodial meetings.
  • Direct and counsel staff on a confidential basis if staff member is having difficulty in job performance. Alert Director if problem continues and recommend and implement corrective action plan.
  • Assist the Director in budgetary needs of custodial department.
  • Oversee building projects and repairs.
  • Participates in the oversight of heating (boiler), ventilation, cleaning grounds, and general maintenance of the three library facilities.
  • Opens/Closes Central Library
  • Cleans assigned areas of library and branch libraries
  • Completes daily delivery route of books and materials.
  • Coordinates and services weekday afternoon and evening activities.
  • Assigns and distributes Custodial Requests from staff .
  • Keeps sidewalks, steps and grounds free of snow, ice and debris.
  • Grounds maintenance.
  • Alert Director to any problems with substitute help.
  • Perform any other duties requested by the Director of Libraries.
  • Overtime is sometimes required.
  • On-call status is required.


  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of plant and cleaning equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the necessary precautions in power plant operations.
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of custodial operations and methods.
  • Ability to work effectively with office staff, library staff and general public.
  • Knowledge of, or familiarity with, library routines.
  • Position requires ability to perform heavy lifting.
  • Knowledge of heating and cooling systems, including computer automated systems.

The Library always accepts applications for part-time Library Assistants and for Volunteers, regardless of whether or not there is a vacancy. We keep applications on file for six months.    

Library Assistant

Duties:  Understand the Dewey Decimal System and shelve books accordingly; shelf-read assigned section each day; shift books on shelves as needed; straighten magazine and newspaper area; clear reading tables of books, magazines and newspapers periodically during your shift; and, perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.  Must be able to reach, bend, and lift approximately 40 lbs.

Part-time:  Maximum 19 hours per week, 2 – 5 hours per day

Minimum wage:  $ 8. 50 / hr
