For over 50 years, the Cooperative Nursery at Christ Church (CNCC) has offered opportunities for preschool children to learn through play in an environment of security and acceptance. Children are encouraged to satisfy curiosity, creativity and small motor needs through a variety of manipulatives, toys, and craft activities in a learning atmosphere while promoting growth in a safe, supervised setting. Each day, the children develop large motor skills through active play inside as well as outside, riding big wheels, playing with balls, and exploring the equipment in the private, enclosed play yard. During free play time, children build self-esteem through success with sharing and socialization. The 3 and 4 year old classes play together with appropriate teacher-directed activities directed with parent help. The 4 year old program also includes school readiness and listening activities, and has had success as a “young 5′s” year for several students in recent years. CNCC offers a creative music program that provides an excellent opportunity for movement with daily music sessions for 3′s and 4′s together. A variety of CD’s, instruments, and songs encouraging the children’s self-expression and movement are used.
CNCC’s teachers have been teaching together at CNCC for almost 20 years and have developed an exciting, energetic learning experience for preschoolers. Our program emphasizes learning that is fun, with CNCC parents working alongside our teaching staff. CNCC offers a flexible working parent schedule to meet parents’ needs. Parents take turns planning fun parties throughout the year, as well as helping with other non-teaching aspects of a cooperative school. Preschoolers love to have their parent helping in the classroom and enjoy bringing a special show and tell item when their parents work at school.
Christ Church Grosse Pointe’s Mother’s Day Out program is across the hall from CNCC, so siblings can attend MDO while mom/dad is a working parent at CNCC. Convenient, teacher-run, curbside drop-off and pickup.
